DVB-S2 DSNG Satellite Contribution & Distribution Solution

Real-Time Video Transmission via Satellite for Global Coverage

DIGICAST provides a professional DSNG Modulator solution for broadcasters, television stations, news agencies, sports organizations, government networks, and satellite operators requiring real-time video contribution and global content distribution.

The solution is based on the DMB-9582-S2 DVB-S2 Satellite Modulator, which integrates professional video encoding and DVB-S2 modulation into a compact platform. Live video signals captured from cameras, OB vans, studios, sporting events, news gathering operations, or remote locations can be compressed, modulated, and transmitted via satellite to reach audiences anywhere in the world.

How the DVB-S2 DSNG System Works

Step 1: Video Acquisition

The DMB-9582-S2 receives professional video sources through:

HDMI Input

SDI Input

YPbPr Component Video Input

These inputs support a wide range of broadcast and professional AV equipment.

Step 2: Video Compression

The built-in encoder supports:

MPEG-2 Video Encoding

H.264 AVC Video Encoding

The encoder converts high-bandwidth HD video into efficient transport streams suitable for satellite transmission.

Step 3: DVB-S2 Modulation

The compressed transport stream is directly processed by the integrated DVB-S2 Modulator.

Supported modulation modes include:

QPSK

8PSK

DVB-S2 ACM/VCM

The output RF signal is sent to the satellite uplink chain through the BUC (Block Up Converter).

Step 4: Satellite Uplink

The modulated signal is transmitted to the satellite and distributed over a large geographic coverage area.

Applications include:

Live Sports Broadcasting

News Contribution

Remote Event Coverage

Disaster Recovery Communications

Government Communications

DTH Platform Distribution

Step 5: Satellite Reception

At the receiving end, the DVB-S2 signal can be received by:

Professional IRDs

Satellite Headends

Broadcast Monitoring Centers

DTH Subscribers

Cable TV Operators

IPTV Headends

DVB-S2 vs DVB-S2X

Many customers ask whether they should deploy a traditional DVB-S2 Modulator or a newer DVB-S2X Modulator.

Comparison Overview

Feature DVB-S2 DVB-S2X
Standard Release Second Generation Extended Generation
Modulation Up to 32APSK Up to 256APSK
MODCOD Options 28 116+
Roll-Off Factors 20%, 25%, 35% 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 35%
Spectral Efficiency Excellent Higher
UHD / 4K Delivery Supported Optimized
DSNG Applications Widely Used Advanced Networks
HTS Satellite Support Good Excellent

DVB-S2 Advantages

Mature technology

Wide receiver compatibility

Lower deployment cost

Ideal for traditional DSNG and DTH projects

DVB-S2X Advantages

Higher-order modulation up to 256APSK

Smaller roll-off factors for better bandwidth utilization

More MODCOD options

Improved efficiency for UHD and 4K services

Better support for High Throughput Satellites (HTS)

Can improve satellite capacity utilization by up to 20% or more depending on network conditions and application scenarios.

For most broadcast contribution and DSNG deployments today, DVB-S2 remains the most widely adopted solution. DVB-S2X is typically selected when maximum bandwidth efficiency and next-generation satellite capacity are priorities.
