Resort Satellite TV Distribution Solution Using Fiber Optic Transmission

Project Overview

A resort customer needed a cost-effective solution to distribute satellite TV channels across multiple buildings while maintaining excellent signal quality and minimizing infrastructure costs.Traditional coaxial cable distribution was not suitable due to the long distances between buildings, and a full IPTV deployment would significantly increase equipment and network investment.To address these challenges, DIGICAST designed a Satellite-over-Fiber solution that converts DVB-S/S2 satellite signals into optical signals for long-distance transmission and then converts them back to satellite RF signals at each building.The project was successfully deployed and is now providing stable television services throughout the resort.

Customer Challenges

The resort faced several common challenges:

  • Multiple buildings spread across a large property
  • Long transmission distances between buildings
  • High signal loss using traditional coaxial cables
  • Need to preserve existing satellite TV channels
  • Requirement for reliable 24/7 operation
  • Budget limitations compared with IPTV deployment
  • Easy maintenance and future scalability

The customer wanted a solution that could deliver satellite TV channels to every room without requiring a dedicated IPTV network infrastructure.


DIGICAST Solution

Central Signal Reception

Satellite channels are received through a DVB-S/S2 satellite antenna.Additional terrestrial DVB-T signals can also be integrated into the same system.The RF signals are connected to the DIGICAST DMB-TXCW240 Optical Transmitter.

Optical Signal Conversion

The DMB-TXCW240 converts satellite RF signals into optical signals and transmits them over single-mode fiber.Compared with traditional coaxial cable transmission, fiber optics provide:

Optical Signal Distribution

A PLC Optical Splitter distributes the optical signal to multiple buildings throughout the resort.This architecture allows one central headend to serve multiple remote locations.Benefits include:

  • Easy future expansion
  • Lower installation complexity

Building-Level Signal Recovery

At each building, a DIGICAST DMB-RXCW240 Optical Receiver converts the optical signal back into satellite RF signals.The recovered RF signal is then connected to a multiswitch system.This enables standard satellite distribution within each building using existing coaxial infrastructure.


Room Distribution

From the multiswitch, RF signals are distributed through RG6 coaxial cables to guest rooms.Each room is equipped with:

  • Standard Satellite Set-Top Box (STB)
  • Television

Guests can enjoy the full satellite channel lineup without requiring IPTV middleware, IP networking, or specialized smart TVs.
