Overview

 

DMB-9581E Encoder/Modulator​ integrates MPEG-4/AVC H.264 encoding, multiplexing, and modulation within a 1U rack-mountable chassis. The unit accepts 8/12/16/20/24 HDMI inputs, along with IP streams and 2 ASI inputs, and converts them into RF signals compliant with DVB-C, DVB-T, ISDB-T, or ATSC standards, operating across 50–960 MHz. Additionally, it provides 2 ASI ports and 1 IP port for Transport Stream output.

Features:

 

All-in-One Integrated Platform​ – This unit combines encoding, modulation, and multiplexing in a single device. In addition to HDMI input, it supports 128× MPTS/SPTS streams via UDP/IP and 2× ASI inputs. RF output can be generated from HDMI, IP, or ASI sources. The device also provides IP outputs including 127× SPTS over IP (UDP/RTP), 1–8× MPTS, and 2× independent ASI outputs. RF output is configurable as 4/8/16× RF carriers for DVB‑T/ATSC‑T/ISDB‑T/Tb/DTMB, or 16/32× RF carriers for DVB‑C. (Note: ISDB‑T RF output is limited to 1× ASI input and only supports 2K mode; 4K and 8K are not supported.)

Multi‑Source Compatibility​ – The system accommodates mixed input configurations such as HDMI + Tuner (DVB‑S2/C/T2/ISDB‑T/ATSC), for example 16× HDMI inputs combined with 8× frequency‑programmable tuners.

Flexible Frequency Allocation​ – Offers 768 MHz of usable bandwidth, enabling flexible assignment of frequency points within this spectrum (when configured for 16× RF outputs).

Multi‑Carrier Configuration Options​ – Available in versions that support 4/8/16 carriers for DVB‑T/C/ATSC/ISDB‑T, or 32× QAM carriers for DVB‑C, selected based on the number of program channels required.

What is a headend?

A headend is used to receive TV channels from external sources and convert them to a unified format for distribution to the in-room TVs. A traditional headend consists of terrestrial and/or satellite antennas and an appliance that converts the TV signals.

Broadcast headend or IPTV headend?

A broadcast headend is used for distribution in a coaxial antenna network inside the building. An IPTV headend is used for streaming multicast IPTV channels over a local area network (LAN) instead of the coax network. So, if you already have a coax network and don't want to upgrade to IPTV and LAN you need a broadcast headend, otherwise an IPTV version. Some hotel TV systems use both to distribute different kinds of channels, but the cost-efficient version is to go with one or the other.

Where do the TV channels come from?

The headend typically receives TV channels from satellite dishes, terrestrial antennas and/or cable from cable TV operators. It's also possible to receive TV channels from the internet and other network equipment like IPTV cameras or computers.
