Overview

DMB-9581E Encoder/Modulator is a 1U rack‑mount integrated unit that combines H.264 encoding, multiplexing, and RF modulation in a single chassis. It accepts configurable HDMI inputs (8/12/16/20/24 channels), IP streams, and 2 ASI inputs, converting them to RF outputs compliant with DVB‑C, DVB‑T, ISDB‑T, or ATSC standards across the 50–960 MHz frequency band. The device additionally provides 2 ASI outputs and 1 IP port for Transport Stream delivery.

Features:

All-in-One Integrated Encoding, Modulation & Multiplexing System – In addition to HDMI inputs, the device supports 128× MPTS/SPTS streams via UDP/IP and 2× ASI inputs. RF output can be generated from any input source: HDMI, IP, or ASI. The unit delivers IP outputs including 127× SPTS over IP (UDP/RTP), 1–8× MPTS, and 2× independent ASI outputs. RF outputs are configurable as 4/8/16× RF carriers for DVB‑T/ATSC‑T/ISDB‑T/Tb/DTMB, or 16/32× RF carriers for DVB‑C (Note: ISDB‑T RF output is limited to 1× ASI input and supports 2K mode only; 4K and 8K are not supported).

Multiple Signal Source Support – Compatible with hybrid input configurations such as HDMI + Tuner (DVB‑S2/C/T2/ISDB‑T/ATSC), for example 16× HDMI + 8× programmable tuners.

Flexible Frequency Planning – Provides 768 MHz of usable bandwidth, enabling dynamic allocation of frequency points within this range (when operating with 16× RF outputs).

Multi-Carrier Version Selection – Offers models supporting 4/8/16 carriers for DVB‑T/C/ATSC/ISDB‑T, or 32× QAM carriers for DVB‑C, chosen according to the required number of program channels.

What is a Headend?

A headend serves as the central hub in a television distribution system. It receives TV signals from external sources-such as satellite, terrestrial, or cable feeds-and converts them into a consistent format for distribution to televisions in individual rooms. A conventional headend typically includes antennas (satellite and/or terrestrial) along with signal‑processing equipment that conditions and converts the incoming signals.

Broadcast Headend vs. IPTV Headend

A broadcast headend delivers TV signals over a coaxial cable network within a building.

An IPTV headend distributes TV channels as multicast IP streams across a local area network (LAN).

If you have an existing coaxial infrastructure and prefer not to transition to an IP‑based system, a broadcast headend is the suitable choice. If you are implementing a new network or expanding an IP infrastructure, an IPTV headend is recommended. Some facilities deploy both systems to deliver different channel types, though selecting one based on your current setup is generally more cost‑effective.

Sources of TV Channels

TV channels are typically sourced from satellite dishes, terrestrial antennas, or cable TV provider connections. Channels can also be integrated from internet streams, IP cameras, computers, or other network‑attached devices.
