Overview
DMB-9581E Encoder/Modulator is a unified 1U rack‑mount unit that incorporates MPEG‑4/AVC H.264 encoding, multiplexing, and modulation in a single chassis. The device processes 8/12/16/20/24 HDMI inputs, IP streams, and 2 ASI inputs, converting them to RF outputs conforming to DVB‑C, DVB‑T, ISDB‑T, or ATSC standards across the 50–960 MHz band. It also includes 2 ASI interfaces and 1 IP port for delivering Transport Stream outputs.

What is a Headend?
A headend is the central receiving and processing unit in a television distribution system. It collects TV signals from external sources (such as satellite, terrestrial, or cable feeds) and converts them into a standardized format suitable for distribution to televisions in individual rooms. A conventional headend typically includes antennas (satellite/terrestrial) and signal‑processing equipment that demodulates, decodes, and re‑modulates incoming signals for delivery.
Broadcast Headend vs. IPTV Headend
A broadcast headend distributes TV signals via a coaxial cable network within a building.
An IPTV headend delivers TV channels as multicast IP streams over a local area network (LAN).
If you already have a coaxial infrastructure and prefer not to upgrade to an IP‑based system, a broadcast headend is the appropriate choice. If you are deploying or expanding an IP network, an IPTV headend is recommended. Some facilities operate both systems to distribute different channel types, though a cost‑effective approach is to select one based on your existing infrastructure and requirements.
Sources of TV Channels
TV channels are typically sourced from satellite dishes, terrestrial antennas, or cable TV operator feeds. It is also possible to integrate channels from internet streams, IP‑based cameras, computers, or other network‑connected equipment into the headend system.
